Muteferriqa is an Ottoman Turkish discovery portal offering research opportunities across 7 million pages of content and 660,000 images. It offers versatile discovery capabilities, including full-text searches, across nearly 35,000 printed Ottoman Turkish books and 1,470 periodical titles.
Muteferriqa consists of two main collections: Periodicals and Books.
• Periodicals Collection (Hakkı Tarık Us Collection): Approximately 1,500 titles, 96,000 issues, and 1 million pages
• Book Collection (Seyfettin Özege Rare Books Collection): Over 30,000 titles, approximately 6 million pages
• Both full-text and metadata are searchable in Arabic and Latin-based scripts. For example, to search for the keyword "sculpture," users can type "statue" in English, "heykel" in Turkish, or "heik" in Ottoman Turkish.
• Images from both collections can be queried and viewed independently. Users can search images using image descriptions or image category tags for their content; they can also discover new images based on image similarity.
• Support for both Turkish and English in Latin script makes the treasure trove of Ottoman printed resources accessible to those who cannot read texts in the old script or who are not fully conversant in Turkish.
• Search and read in your preferred language.
