Journal Citation Reports is a comprehensive database containing measurable statistical information that provides unbiased, systematic, and objective tools for evaluating the world's leading journals based on critical and citation data.
Journal performance metrics provide a systematic and objective tool for critically evaluating the world's leading journals. Journal data from the Web of Science is processed, evaluated, calculated, and presented through Journal Citation Reports, ranking the "WORLD'S MOST IMPORTANT JOURNALS."
The Journal Citation Reports (JCR) database provides the opportunity to evaluate journals with numerical and statistical information based on citation data. JCR measures the impact of research at the journal and category levels and shows the relationship between citations. With JCR, you can provide data about journals, evaluate a journal's impact factor, and connect to various interfaces. Journal performance metrics provide a systematic, objective method for evaluating the world's leading journals.
* Journal comparisons
* Historical journal impact factors and Q values
* Indexed journal lists
* Journals by subject area
* Other journal indicators (such as article influence score, immediacy index, impact factor without self-citations, etc.)
Journal Citation Reports are widely used across the research ecosystem, including:
* A decision-support tool for librarians regarding the selection or exclusion of journals from their collections, the length of time each journal should be kept in the collection before being archived, and so on.
* Publishers and editors can determine the market impact of journals and examine their editorial functions.
* Authors can identify the most suitable and influential journals to publish in and also monitor the status of the journals in which they have published articles.
* Academics and students can find up-to-date reading lists in their fields.
* Managers and information analysts can monitor bibliometric and citation patterns to make strategic and funding decisions.
Journal Citation Report Features
* Covers more than 12,000 journals from more than 2,550 publishers in approximately 235 disciplines from 81 countries.
* Sort by journal data - Journal Impact Factor, immediacy index, total citations, total articles, cited half-life, journal title, and more
* Sort by subject category data - Total citations, median impact factor, aggregate impact factor, aggregate immediacy index, aggregated cited half-life, number of journals in category, number of articles in category
* Five-year Impact Factor shows you a wider range of citation activity. This feature allows for the inclusion of more of the total citation activity in a critical performance metric for journals where citation activity has continued to increase over several years.
* To understand journal performance by category, the "Journal Impact Factor Percentile" can be used.
* Eigenfactor® Metrics uses journal journal data from the JCR to reflect the prestige and citation impact of a journal, taking into account the relationships between journals and the academic literature.
* The Journal Impact Factor Box provides a graphical representation of the Journal Impact Factor, showing how a journal ranks in different categories.
* Rank-in-Category Tables are used to evaluate journals across multiple categories.
* Journal Self-Citations are used to see how self-citations affect the Journal Impact Factor.
